The realities of a Bryanston property

Ten years on, the average household is carrying a keyring the size of a fist and has no idea which of the older keys are still floating around. From there the jobs are practical. Cylinders that have gummed up in the dust get replaced. Mortice locks with worn levers get swapped for something graded. Doors that have dropped are re-aligned so the bolt seats properly instead of being forced. Gate motors get serviced before they strand a car in the driveway. Being locked out of your own house is the most common reason people phone us for the first time. Entry is non-destructive wherever the lock allows, and we ask for proof of residence before opening anything — the same check that keeps somebody else from talking their way into your home. One quiet tip that saves a lot of grief: leave a spare set with someone you trust inside the suburb rather than in an obvious hiding place outside the house. Fake rocks and pot plants are the first two places anyone checks, and we have opened plenty of doors for owners who never realised how visible their spare key hiding spot was from the street.
Security gates, motors and the outside layer
The outer layer takes the weather and the wear. Highveld summer storms are hard on gate motors, and dust is hard on sliding gate locks. Where a mechanism is sound we repair it — new keeps, new rollers, a service and a re-align is a fraction of the price of replacement. Where a gate has been forced or the metal is fatigued, we say so plainly rather than patching something that will fail again in a month.
Domestic staff access is worth thinking about here too. A separate keyed access to a side gate, restricted so it cannot open the main house, gives you flexibility without handing over the whole property. Upgrades that are actually worth the money
Not every recommendation is an upgrade. High-security cylinders make sense on the front door and any door hidden from the street; they are wasted on an internal passage. Anti-snap protection matters where a cylinder protrudes; it is irrelevant where it sits flush. We will tell you which of your doors genuinely justify spending and which are already fine, and we would rather sell you two good cylinders than six average ones.
